best parts of being a student

I really enjoy being a student.  I enjoy the flexibility of being able to do things during the day (granted sometimes this flexibility disappears when there is a lot of work), and some of the perks that being on a campus offers.

First, being able to go to the gym during the day is a huge plus.  Instead of getting home from work, going to the gym and coming home for dinner at 7:30 I can go during the day and walk back to the LGO office to do more work.

Second, something I have really enjoyed has been the sailing pavillion.  All students have free access to the club and can take out boats whenever they want.  Having some sailing experience, I was able to quickly figure out how to use the basic sailboat and have taken advantage of it a number of times.  Sailing on the river is a little more challenging than sailing on a lake (where I have in the past), but I like learning on the fly and have been able to figure it out as I go.  During the 4th of July, MIT also opens up the pavilion to students and guests.  This is great because it is prime real estate in front of the fireworks.  You can use the grills, bring some drinks and have a swell ole time.  Here is one cool pic of the fireworks and view:

Yesterday I discovered a third great thing.  Across from the sailing pavilion, and convenient to the sloan buildings, is the on campus bar Muddy Charles.  They have incredibly cheap beer (for Boston) and it elicits feelings of nostalgia for my undergrad bars.
